President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asserted that he follows the latest development of protest in Papua and West Papua provinces during the past few days.

“I always follow the latest information about the provinces. I also have called Governor Mandacan (Dominggus Mandacan, red) this morning and asked him about the current situation in Manokwari and Sorong,” President Jokowi said after visiting salt farm in Nungkurus Village, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Wednesday (21/8).

In addition to cities of Manokwari and Sorong, President Jokowi also follows the latest situation in Fakfak Regency, West Papua where protests took place today.

“The situation returns to being conducive,” the President said.

On that occasion, the President also said that he is slated to visit Jayapura, Papua province to inaugurate Holtekamp Bridge next month.

For the record, the 433-meter-long bridge which is built by using Rp1.3 trillion of budget will shorten the distance and cut travel time from Jayapura to Skouw Cross-Border Posts (PLBN) from 2.5 hours to only 1 hour. The bridge is also expected to solve population density in Jayapura since the population distribution of Jayapura City is uneven. (HEN/AGG/ES)
