President Jokowi Underscores Importance of Drinking Water Supply System for Public Health

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (01/05) underscored the importance of Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in every province throughout Indonesia in order to prevent the spread of diseases caused by poor quality drinking water.

The President went on to say that by building the SPAM, water quality for the people can be improved.

“I noticed that all provinces need this kind of SPAM,” President Jokowi said in his statement after the inauguration of Regional SPAM of Dumai, Rokan Hilir, and Bengkalis (Durolis) in Rokan Hilir regency, Riau province.

Echoing the same thought, Head of Technical Implementation Unit of Rokan Hilir SPAM Zulkarnain said that the Durolis SPAM will provide great benefits for the people considering that water in a coastal area has high turbidity so it is not safe to consume the water directly.

After the Durolis SPAM is built, water can go through water treatment process so it is safe to consume.

Furthermore, Zulkarnain said that the Durolis SPAM is one of the Government programs that aims at providing clean water for the people. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/TGH/UN) (AP/HD/MMB)
