President Jokowi: Uphold Sportsmanship, Fair Play

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo urged all athletes and the public to uphold the values of sportsmanship and fair play, in his remarks when opening the 21st National Sports Week (PON) 2024 at the Harapan Bangsa Stadium, Banda Aceh City, Monday night (09/09).

“I really urge you to uphold sportsmanship and fair play,” said the President.

The President emphasized the importance of the PON event as a forum to foster togetherness and national achievement. He also added that the 21st PON is not just a sports competition, but also an important event to produce outstanding athletes who can bring honor to the nation’s name on the international stage.

“This PON is an event to produce more of this nation’s best athletes, produce more world record breakers, produce more potential gold medal winners at the Asian Games, the Sea Games, and even the Olympics,” said the President.

However, President Jokowi emphasized that the values of unity and brotherhood carried in the PON should not be ignored. He also invited all Indonesian people to celebrate the 21st PON with spirits of togetherness, sportsmanship, and joy.

“Let us all celebrate this National Sports Week with spirits of togetherness, sportsmanship, and joy to make achievements that make our nation proud,” said the President.
