President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered Government apparatus to take anticipatory measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the upcoming public holidays at the end of October.

“We had an experience with public holidays one and a half months ago, after which there was a relatively high increase (in COVID-19 cases). We need to discuss this so that the (upcoming) holidays and collective leave days will not result in the increase in COVID-19 cases,” the President said during the Limited Cabinet Meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (19/10).

The President also said that as of 18 October 2020, the data shows that the average of COVID-19 active cases in Indonesia was recorded at 17.69 percent. “It is lower than the global average active cases which reached 22.54 percent. This is very good,” the President said.

The recovery rate in Indonesia was recorded at 78.84 percent, higher than the global recovery rate of 74.67 percent. Compared to last September, the average mortality rate due to COVID 19 also decreased from 3.94 percent to 3.45 percent.

“We need to keep improving (the COVID-19 handling) so that we can expect COVID-19 downtrend in Indonesia,” the President said. (FID/UN)
