President Jokowi Urges Attorney General’s Office to Improve Public Trust

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has urged the Attorney General’s Office to carry out comprehensive transformation of the institution to improve public trust.

The President made the statement on Saturday (07/22) during the ceremony to commemorate the 63rd Bhakti Adhyaksa Day (anniversary of the Attorney General’s Office) at the Education and Training Center of the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta.

”We must maintain and improve public trust with better performance, systemized and organized work, and planned and comprehensive transformation of the institution from the central to the regional offices,” he said while pointing out that public trust toward the Attorney General’s Office continued to increase from 75.3 percent in August 2022 to 81.2 percent in July 2023.

“I would like to wish you anniversary. However, be careful in maintaining, improving public trust. It is not easy. Do not be complacent. We must maintain and improve public trust,” he said.

The President further stated that great public trust is an essential capital of the Attorney General’s Office to transform and reform the institution in all aspects and levels.

The President also urged the institution to continue to improve quality, professionalism, and integrity of human resources.

”Improve human resources quality through selective attorney recruitment and intensive training. Increase the standards of code of conduct and attorneys’ integrity. Keep enhancing work effectiveness, optimizing information technology utilization. Facilitate the public’s access to legal services, improve information transparency, and be responsive in handling the public’s reports,” he said.

The President also called on the Attorney General’s Office and all law enforcement apparatus, including the Indonesian National Police, Corruption Eradication Commission, and supervisors and auditors in the central and regional governments, to continue to increase accountability and improve public service.

“Do not let there be any staff of the Attorney General’s Office that commits a travesty of justice, works in collusion over projects, obtains imported goods illegally, or takes any other negative action,” he remarked. (FID/UN) (DH/LW)
