President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo urged all sports branches to perform coaching from early childhood.

The Head of State made the statement while inspecting the Energen Champion Student Athletics Championship Indonesia, at Stadion Madya Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Jakarta, Friday (13/01) afternoon.

On that occasion, President watched the final round of women’s 4×100-meter relay and men’s 4×100-meter relay.

“It can be practiced in all sports, starting from the lowest level, be it the community level, the sub-district level, or the village level, so there’s sports coaching everywhere” said the President.

President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation to the Executive Board of the All-Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI) for performing coaching and talent scouting for athletics from early childhood.

“I highly appreciate what PASI has done, with the coaching at the lowest level, regional-level coaching, school-based coaching, madrasa-based coaching, they are excellent,” stated the President.

The President went on by saying that athletics forms the basics of many other sports.

“Football without speed will lose, futsal requires athletics, long jump also needs athletics, everything has its basic form in athletics,” he concluded.

For the record, the Energen Champion Student Athletics Championship Indonesia was held on 11-13 January 2023. The event contested sprint, middle distance running, relays, long jump, and shot put. The qualifications were done in some provinces, namely Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Papua, Yogyakarta, Kalimantan, East Java, North Sumatra, Jakarta and Banten, West Java, and Central Java.
