President Jokowi Urges People to Buy Local Products to Stimulate Economic Growth

Amid global uncertainty and efforts to recover the economy, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo urged people to stimulate economic growth by buying domestic products.

“The State Budget (APBN), Regional Budget (APBD), and budget of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) belong to the people. Do not use it to purchase imported products. It is so wrong,” the President said during his directives at the event called Evaluation of Affirmative Action to Increase Purchase and Utilization of Local Products in “Proud of Indonesian Products” National Movement (Gernas BBI), at Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, Tuesday (05/24).

He also expressed his excitement at commitment to purchase Rp802 trillion worth of local products at ministries/institutions and regional government, and Rp296 trillion at SOEs. He urged the related parties to realize the commitment immediately.

“We need to realize it since the realization is still below 10 percent at Rp110.2 trillion,” he said adding that he will monitor the development of that realization. (TGH/UN) (RAS/LW)
