President Jokowi Urges PSSI to Formulate Road Map for Soccer Development
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed hope that the new Chair of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir can carry out thorough reforms of the country’s football in order to find more football talents.
According to the President, the most important things are changes, total reforms, and transformation.
To that end, the President has urged the new board of PSSI to design medium and long-term master plans to improve Indonesia’s football achievements.
The President made the statement during the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the United Development Party (PPP) at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City in Tangerang regency, Banten province, Friday (17/02/2023).
“The progress, the road map, and the plan must be evident at every stage in terms of what to achieve in 50 years and what it will be in 25 years. Everything must be planned in detail if we want our football to progress because only by having clear and good planning would Indonesian football advance,” the President said, adding that the construction of supporting infrastructure is also important, especially the construction of a complete basecamp as PSSI does not have it yet.
“Until now, we don’t have a basecamp. According to Shin Tae Yong, we need five fields in one location, lodging, and a swimming pool for the players,” the President firmly said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RY/EP)
