President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo urged the public to plan their Eid al-Fitr homecoming (mudik) for the year 2024 earlier. The President emphasized that this year’s homecoming travelers are estimated to increase to around 190 million people, which is a 56 percent increase compared to that of the previous year.

The President made the statement after opening the 12th Congress of the Indonesian Buddhist Students Association (Hikmahbudhi) in 2024, at the Mercure Convention Center in Jakarta, on Thursday (03/28).

“This year’s homecoming will be massive, with an increase of 56 percent compared to that of last year. The total number of homecoming travelers this year is predicted to reach approximately 190 million, based on surveys. Therefore, I urge the public to start their homecoming trips early,” said the President.

Considering the large number of homecoming travelers, President Jokowi reminded the public of the importance of comfort and safety during the trip.

“If it’s not possible [to go for mudik earlier], send your family members first, so that everyone can have a comfortable journey this year because, once again, the number is not small. The 190 million is not a small number, and the 56 percent increase is significant,” said the President.

For the record, this call is a part of the Government’s efforts to ensure that the tradition of homecoming, which is an important part of Indonesian culture, can proceed smoothly and without significant obstacles. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (AS/RAS/MUR)
