President Jokowi Urges the Cabinet to Implement Pre-Employment Card Next Year

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo ordered his Cabinet to implement the Pre-Employment Card at the beginning of next year.

According to the President, the holder will be able to choose the training or courses at their will through digital platforms.

“The choices of course are ranging from barista, animation, graphic design, English, computers, to technicians or even programming and coding,” President Jokowi said in his introductory remarks at the Limited Cabinet Meeting on the Pre-Employment Card Program, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (12/11).

In addition to job seekers, the President also called his Cabinet to include the people who lose their job due to layoffs since they also need to rescaling or upscaling their skills.

Furthermore, President Jokowi ordered the program will be done massively through the help of private sector, SoEs, and Vocational Training Center (BLK). “Please try to invite the experienced private sector to participate,” he added.

On the occasion, the President also urged the Cabinet to focus on two things; to prepare a new workforce that can be absorbed according to the needs or create new employment as entrepreneurs and to improve the skills of the existing workforce so they can be more productive and competitive, since 58 percent of workforce in the country are junior high school graduates and below.

Therefore, President Jokowi expressed hope that there will be a revamp on the vocational education and training system. “This is the domain of Minister of Education and Culture,” he concluded. (MAY/EN/JAY/ES)
