President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (01/10) visited a producer of coffee product Kopiko Philippines Corporation (KPC), which is a subsidiary company of PT Mayora Indah Tbk.

In his remarks, President Jokowi mentioned that KPC is one of investments made by Indonesia’s business sector that can get into the Philippines’ market.

“We see that our business sector’s investment, Indonesia’s company in the Philippines, namely Mayora, apparently dominates almost 50 percent in the Philippines,” President Jokowi said in Carmona, the Philippines.

According to the President, KPC’s coffee production is huge. Therefore, he expressed hope that the industry can give a positive impact to Indonesian farmers who have also contributed to supplying the primary commodity.

In his working visit to the Philippines, President Jokowi also visited a seaweed processing industry W Hydrocolloids Inc.

After the visit, the President shared his thought that Indonesia has a big opportunity to develop seaweed processing industry.

“I think this is an opportunity for our seaweed farmers. It can be developed not in one, two, or three locations, but throughout the country, because we have a very long coastline,” he said.

President Jokowi also expressed hope that Indonesia’s seaweed processing continues to improve so it will give added value to the farmers.

“We need to prepare our farmers so we can have bigger capacity. Some seaweed can be manufactured in Indonesia, and some other can be exported to the Philippines or other countries, so it will give added value to the farmers.
