On Monday (26/2) afternoon, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo suddenly visited Athlete Housing Complex in Kemayoran to inspect the preparedness of this facility prior to the 2018 Asian Games to be held in Jakarta and Palembang, next August.

“For the Athlete Housing Complex, Alhamdulillah, 99.9 percent finished. It only needs minor repair,” the President told the reporters.<>

The President asked to provide big trees so that the surrounding environment looks green. He also praised the good furniture, rooms, and elevators.

President Jokowi also plans to invite the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing to see the route from the airport to Senayan to check the condition of the road.

Concerning a complaint from foreign athlete about the length of the bed, the President explained that the length can be extended using a 40-45 cm stole. Thus, the bed can fit tall athletes.

In the meantime, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing through Directorate General of Housing Provision stated that the construction of Athlete Housing Complex is finished and ready to be inaugarated. Hopefully, the athletes can feel comfortable staying in this housing during the Asian Games.

For the record, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing constructed 10 apartment towers consisting of three towers in Block C-2 covering an area of 135,000 square meters and seven towers in Block D-10 covering an area of 333,700 square meters in Kemayoran Complex.

The construction of the 10 towers is executed by Directorate General of Housing Provision based on Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2016 on Supporting Facilities of Asian Games XVIII of 2018 and Presidential Regulation Number 3 of 2016 on Acceleration of National Strategic Project.

The construction has been started since 17 March 2016 with contract value Rp3.7 trillion. After the Game, this vertical housing is going to be used as a dwelling place for the people of Jakarta who meet the requirements regulated by the Government, for example for people from lower middle class and those who are relocated from slump area in Jakarta.

Block C-2 and D-10 of Kemayoran Complex are state assets under the management of the Ministry of State Secretariat. Three towers at Block C-2 consist of 1,932 units and seven towers at Block D-10 consist of 5,949 units. Each unit has two bed rooms, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a laundry area. One unit of the apartment is predicted to be occupied by three people. Thus, this athlete housing complex is predicted to accomodate 22,278 athletes.

Also present on the visit were Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan, and Chairman of INASGOC Erick Thohir. (AGG/ES) (MMB/YM/Naster)
