President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo, on Friday (15/5) visited Balige Traditional Market in Toba Samosir, North Sumatra.

The President and the First Lady were enthusiastically greeted by the locals who stood along the road to the entrance of the market, trying to shake hands or take photos with the President and the First Lady. During the visit to the market, the President talked to the sellers and the locals, and bought some vegetables such as chayote, shallots, and 2 kilograms of oranges.

After leaving the Balige market, Ibu Iriana visited the gallery of Regional Craft Council, where she bought some Balige woven fabrics.

Accompanying the President during the visit were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, and Governor of North Sumatra Edy Rahmayadi.
