President Jokowi visits an Islamic figure Arifin Ilham at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta, Wednesday (9/1) (Photo: Presidential Secretariat)

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (9/1) visited cleric Mohammad Arifin Ilham who has been hospitalized at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta.

The cleric was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal and lymph cancer stage 4A and is currently undergoing an intensive treatment to cure the disease.

During the visit, the President expressed hope that Arifin can recover soon and continue his activities to spread Islamic teachings.

“All of us pray for his speedy recovery. May Allah give him recovery so that he can continue his activities to teach and spread Islamic teachings to all of us,” the President said to reporters.

Several national figures have also visited the cleric including former chairman of the Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama (MUI) Ma’ruf Amin, Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan, and Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Tito Karnavian. (BPMI Setpres/ES)
