President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (09/04) inspected the disaster-hit island of Adonara in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

“This afternoon, I am at Adonara, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province after visiting Lembata Regency this morning,” the President said.

President Jokowi added that residents affected by the disaster would be relocated to new areas which would be determined by the regional government, and the Central Government is ready to immediately build new houses for the residents.

“The current location will be relocated to another area which will soon be determined by the Regent and the Governor. I assure you that Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing stands ready to build new houses as quickly as possible,” the President said.

On that occasion, the President also reminded local residents in the shelter to maintain self-discipline in following health protocols.

“Do follow health protocols. Everyone should wear facemask so that we can curb the COVID-19 transmission, especially in East Nusa Tenggara,” the President said.

For the record, the data from the Nele Lamadike Disaster Post shows that, as of 8 April 2021, 56 local residents have died, 34 residents have been injured, one resident remains missing, and 870 residents live in a number of shelters around the area.

The report also states that 48 houses have been damaged, with nine houses heavily damaged, nine houses slightly damaged, and 30 housing units buried by landslides.

In the meantime, it is also reported that 71 people have died and five others remain missing in East Flores Regency. (FID/AIT/UN) (RI/MUR)
