After inspecting several affected locations in quake-hit Cianjur regency in West Java province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (11/24) headed to Cugenang district in the regency.

The district is said to be the epicentrum where the 5.6 magnitude quake on Monday (11/21) originated.

“This is the very epicentrum. The most damaged houses are here. The number of casualties here is also the highest,” the President stated.

President Jokowi underscored that the rehabilitation of damaged houses would be immediately carried out by the Government after the evacuation process and logistic distribution are completed.

The Government will not only focus on one scheme to rehabilitate damaged houses in order to boost the housing rehabilitation process, he added.

The Government, he added, will also directly hand over to the people to choose which scheme is considered better to accelerate the rehabilitation process.

“There will be a scheme from Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, a scheme assisted by the Indonesian National Defense Force, or we hand over directly to the people if it can accelerate the process. We will not only focus on one scheme,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (AP /EP)
