President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (8/1) met with hundreds of fishermen in the Integrated Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Center (SKPT) at Lampa Strait Fisheries Port in Natuna regency, Riau Islands province.

In his remarks, President Jokowi said he wanted to ensure that the SKPT—which has been operating since October 2019 after a four-year construction— can bring benefits to the local fishermen and become a new economic hub in Natuna, especially for marine and fisheries sectors.

President Jokowi also expressed hope that the fishermen can use the facility well and fully utilize it to reach maximum potential of fisheries in the area.

“Do not allow a good building like this give no benefit for fishermen,” he added.

Quoting the press release of Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment on 7 October 2019, the SKPT offers several main facilities to integrate various marine and fisheries activities.

The main facilities include wharf for fishing vessels below and above 30 Gross Tonnage, a fish market, integrated cold storage with a capacity of 200 tons, fuel stall, clean water treatment, net repair site, and sea supply stall. (BPMI Setpres/ES)
