President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, on Saturday (3/3), visited sneaker exhibition Jakarta Sneaker Day at a mall in South Jakarta.

In addition to spending weekend with his family, the President used the opportunity to check out the development of Indonesian shoe industry and market, especially sneakers. “I want to check out the trends. What are the market trends like? What kinds of shoes are in trend?” the President told journalists.

Although the exhibition was dominated by foreign brand products, President Jokowi believes that Indonesian sneaker products are better and can compete in the international market. “There were several pairs of shoes that are handmade and the production details are very good,” the President said.

Besides having a better quality, according to the President, prices of Indonesian sneaker products are also more competitive and this will further added-values for the products. “We have to see the market trend. What designs does the market like? And what colors do the people like? At any price, if consumers love them, they will buy definitely,” the President said.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also called on the people to join the Government in supporting and appreciating local products. “Do buy local products,” the President said.

President Jokowi also showed a pair of shoes with local brands that he purchased at Rp380,000. “It’s made in Bandung. Very good,” he said. In addition, the President also purchased jackets. “I bought several pairs of shoes and jackets,” the President said. (BPMI/EN) (EP/YM/Naster)
