After attending opening ceremony of the 2023 Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) trading, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (01/02) visited Tanah Abang Market in Jakarta.

The President, accompanied by ad interim Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono, visited several clothing shops and had conversations with traders.

“I want to see the development of the real economy. This market sells products produced in many regions. If the operation of this market stops, the production activities will stop,” the President said after the visit.

The President expressed his optimism that after the lifting of the activity restriction policy (PPKM), the people activities, including in markets, will increase.

“Not only at Tanah Abang market, but also at 16 Ilir market in Palembang, Terong market in Makassar, Beringharjo market in Jogja, Turi Market in Surabaya, Johar Market in Semarang, Pasar Baru market in Bandung, and Gedebage Market in Bandung,” the President added.

On that occasion, the President expressed his appreciation to Tanah Abang market traders who have started to access the digital ecosystem by selling their products in online platforms.

The President also expressed hope that the market traders’ revenue could continue to increase year by year.

“We could get through the turbulence in 2022, so we hope that this year, in 2023, we can overcome all challenges. If we can get through this, God willing, in 2024, it will be easier for us to achieve the economic growth,” the President remarked. (TGH/UN) (RI/LW)
