President Jokowi: We Can Not Hide Bad Things in this Era

President Jokowi handed-over the 2015 Public Agency Information Openness Award, at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (15/12) morning

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said Indonesia is now on a new era where the communication pattern between the Government and people change. People want a transparent, open, interactive and dialogic information as well as a responsive Government.

“People want the Government to be responsive and quick towards the complaints. Therefore, the Government at all levels, both at central and regional, universities, all ministerial public agencies as well as other institutions could change towards an open and good Government,” President Jokowi said when giving a remarks on the handed-over of the 2015 Public Agency Information Openness Award, at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (15/12) morning.

The President asserted that only with good Government we will be able to encourage the people to participate in the development. Legitimacy and public trust will be built by adopting an open Government.

To materialize the situation, the President added, there must be a change in character, mindset in the work pattern as well as to reform it. “We must face it, the information openness can not be prevented,” President Jokowi said.

The statement was reiterated by President Jokowi to the reporters after the event. The President reminded all that when the era currently changed, the apparatus or the Government could not hide the information from the public.

“Now is the era of openness, it is very hard to hide bad things. We can not do that in this era,” President Jokowi firmly said.

According to the President, he always said to the reporters to deliver news to the people or public as it is. If you encounter a difficulty, please say it. Listen to people’s voice, public’s voice, because this is the era of openness that needs a fast response. So, there is no other choice,” the President said.

Previously, the Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara announced Governmental institutions receiving the Award, they are:

a. Ministerial public agency category: 1. Ministry of Finance; 2. Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing; and 3. Ministry of Industry.

b. State institutions public agency category: 1. National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI); 2. National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN); 3. National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN).

c. Nonstructural public agency category: 1. the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK); 2. General Elections Commission (KPU); and 3. Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

d. State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN)’s public agency: 1. Pension Insurance Firm PT Taspen; 2. State Pharmaceutical Company PT Bio Farma; and 3. State-Owned Electricity Company PT PLN.

e. Provincial Government category: 1. Aceh; 2. East Java; and 3. East Kalimantan.

f. University category: 1. Brawijaya University; 2. Gadjah Mada University; and 3. Padjadjaran University.

Attending the event were the Chairman of Central Information Commission (KIP) Abdulhamid Dipopramono; Minister of State Secretary Pratikno; Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti; Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo; Minister of Health Nila Moeloek; Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro; Minister of Communications and Informatics Rudiantara; Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Yuddy Chrisnandi; Minister of  Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Transportation Ignasius Jonan; Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaeman; Minister of Industry Saleh Husin; the Heads of State Institutions, Heads of Nonstructural State Insitutions, and Commissioner of Central and Regional Information Commission (KIPP).
