During the opening of the 2023 Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum Summit, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (10/11) welcomed the island state leaders at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Badung regency, Bali province.

Using a big screen that displayed a coral-filled seabed as a background, President Jokowi welcomed, greeted, and took a picture with state leaders.

The first leader to arrive at the venue was Deputy PM of Fiji Manoa Seru Nakausabaria Kamikamica, followed by Deputy PM of Tonga Samiu Kuita Vaipulu, PM of Niue Emani Makamau Tagelagi, PM of Sao Tome and Principe Patrice Emery Trovoada, PM of Timor Leste Xanana Gusmao, PM of Tuvalu Kausea Natano, and President of Federated States of Micronesia Wesley W. Simina.

For the record, AIS Forum is a platform for cooperation among island and archipelagic countries worldwide that aims to strengthen collaboration to address four global main issues, namely mitigation and adaption to climate change, blue economy, ocean plastic waste management, and maritime governance. The Summit is held to enhance AIS Forum’s role as a hub for smart and innovative solutions and as a platform for mutual cooperation in advancing the future agenda of global ocean governance.
