President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (15/09) at the State Palace welcomed representatives of associations of poultry farmers from across Indonesia.

One of the representatives, Suroto, a poultry breeder from the East Java town of Blitar who previously unveiled a poster that reads “Pak Jokowi, Help Farmers Buy Corn at Reasonable Prices,” explained his purpose of the meeting.

Suroto expressed hope that the President can help solve the problem of increasing price of corn feed and the low price of eggs.

He added that farmers through associations and cooperatives had previously tried to seek solutions throughh several government institutions in the regions as well as Ministry of Agriculture.

However, these meetings did not yield any solution, he added.

“We are stuck. The business cannot run. We can produce eggs at a hundred percent and it will still be a financial loss, while the eggs just piled up in the warehouses,” he said.

Suroto also thanked the President for inviting him to the State Palace to learn the story himself.

In response to that, President Jokowi ordered Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Trade to immediately find the best solution for the poultry sector in the country.

“We hope that in the near future, Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Agriculture will make a breakthrough that can balance the poultry sector,” Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi said. (BPMI/UN) (FI/EP)
