President Jokowi Welcomes Former President SBY at Merdeka Palace
President Joko Widodo Saturday (9/21) warmly welcomed Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s visit to the Jepara Room, Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Saturday (9/21).
During the meeting, SBY informed President Jokowi about his new role as a special advisor for the global alliance aimed at eradicating malaria.
“This morning, I met with the President to discuss the role and mandate I am undertaking as a special advisor for the global alliance to eradicate malaria. I have been entrusted with the position of special advisor for the Asia-Pacific region,” SBY told the press following his meeting with President Jokowi.
SBY further elaborated on Indonesia’s commitment to reducing malaria cases.
During the meeting, SBY informed President Jokowi about his upcoming trip to attend the global malaria alliance forum, known as the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (APLMA), in New York.
“I said that Indonesia is committed to reducing malaria cases at home, and I also have a dedication to the Asia-Pacific region. I informed the President that I will be traveling to New York for about a week to discuss this important issue,” SBY explained.
SBY emphasized the significance of the forum in the global effort to eliminate malaria. He also stressed that malaria must be eradicated, especially in certain provinces in Indonesia that are still affected by the disease.
“We do not want malaria to remain unresolved anywhere in the world. In Indonesia, specifically in Papua, a little in East Nusa Tenggara, a little in Maluku, and some in East Kalimantan,” he said. (BPMI/Setpres) (AS/EP)
