President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (06/09) at the Merdeka Palace welcomed the 2021 Indonesian Film Festival Committee (FFI).

During the meeting, President Jokowi said that the Government would continue to support national film industry with incentives.

“Incentives will be provided for production cost to support the productivity of Indonesian films in this challenging era,” Chairperson of the FFI for Judging Panel film director Garin Nugroho said after the meeting.

According to Garin, the incentives provided by the Government aim to maintain the productivity of Indonesian films after the industry was affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

However, he added, President Jokowi emphasized two things of concern here, namely, the importance of discipline in implementing health protocols and productivity.

“The President emphasized these two things. If we can maintain both discipline and productivity, post-pandemic recovery in the country can be achieved,” Garin said, adding that the FFI Committee also invited President Jokowi to attend FFI Award event on 10 November 2021 to which the President expressed his appreciation and support for the event.

“We invited the President and he appreciated and supported the Indonesian Film Festival 2021 because it is important for the film industry to bounce back amid this condition that demands high adaptability,” Chairperson of FFI Committee actor Reza Rahadian said.

Reza also said that the FFI Committee hopes that the President’s attendance in the FFI 2021 Award event will boost the spirit of Indonesian film community to carry on and continue to grow in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.

“The President’s attendance in the event would show his full support for the rise of the film industry as hoped especially by the film community or the art community,” Reza remarked. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (AW/EP)
