President Jokowi Welcomes KPK Selection Committee

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (10/01) welcomed the selection committee for the leaders and the Supervisory Board Members of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the 2024-2029 period. In his statement to the media, Head of the KPK selection committee Muhammad Yusuf Ateh stated that the selection committee members have submitted the final result of the selection.

“President Jokowi ordered us to inform the media and to announce later the names of the ten candidates for the KPK leaders and the names of the ten candidates for the KPK supervisory board members via the website, as usual,” Muhammad Yusuf Ateh said at the main building of the Ministry of State Secretariat, Jakarta, Tuesday (10/01).

On the occasion, Vice Head of the Selection Committee Arief Satria added that the President will submit the names to the House of Representatives and the selection committee will immediately announce the names to the public via the website.

Arief continued that the selection committee has set a number of criteria for the candidates for both the KPK leaders and the KPK supervisory board members, ranging from reputation to public trust, and these criteria are determined based on input from various groups.

“We involved various group such as the media, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), academics, and businesspeople. Such involvement is part of our effort to accommodate aspirations regarding the main requirements to carry out the duties and the responsibilities of the KPK’s leaders and supervisory board members,” Arief said. He also added that the selection committee also checked all the candidates’ track record and took into consideration the input it received from various parties, such as government agencies with the authority and competence to perform background checks and the public, so as to achieve comprehensive results.

On behalf of the selection committee, Arief also expressed gratitude to all parties who have provided support to the committee during the selection process.

“I would like to thank the media and all elements of society who have provided support, information, input, and criticism to us. I believe that is beneficial for us in leading the selection process,” Arief remarked. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/ABD) (GWH/TM)
