President Jokowi Welcomes Ramadan 1440 Hijri

Selamat-RamadanPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo welcomes the holy month of Ramadan 1440 Hijri, which starts from 6 May this year, and extends his best wishes to Muslims across the country.

“From fasting we learn to manage our desires and obsession with worldly things as well as to cultivate our empathy for those in need. Ramadan as a holy month also provides immeasurable opportunities to gain incredible rewards from God,” the President wrote in his Twitter account @jokowi and his Facebook account on Sunday (5/5).

President Jokowi also released a video with a message “Marhaban ya Ramadan, wish you all a happy fasting”.

On the first night of Ramadan, the President performed taraweeh prayer at General Soedirman Mosque in Peta Museum Complex, Bogor, Sunday (5/5).

For the record, the Indonesian Government through Isbat meeting held on Sunday (5/5) has decided that the Ramadan 1440 Hijri starts on Monday (6/5).

“All participants of the Isbat meeting have agreed that 1 Ramadan will start tomorrow, on Monday, 6 May 2019,” Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin said during a press conference after the Isbat meeting at the office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
