President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo welcomed the holy month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri and wished happy fasting for all Muslims.

“I would like to say Marhaban ya Ramadan (welcome to the month of Ramadan). Happy fasting for the month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri. I ask for your forgiveness physically and emotionally,” the President said in his statement at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java province, Saturday (04/02).

The President stated that despite the pandemic, thanks to the hard work of all elements, the COVID-19 case in Indonesia is under control. Therefore, this Ramadan, Muslims can worship with fewer restrictions.

“You can perform obligatory prayers and tarawih prayers (evening Ramadan prayers) in congregation at the mosque,” he added.

During this year’s Ramadan, President Jokowi also allowed the public to carry out Eid homecoming. “Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, it is also permissible for you to go back to your hometown, to gather with your parents, relatives, and beloved families,” he said.

Nevertheless, the President also reminded the public to follow health protocols in a disciplined manner. He also underscored the importance of vaccination to prevent the COVID-19 spread.

“So, for those who have not received a full dose of vaccinations or a booster shot, please complete them immediately,” he said.

The President also urged Muslims to make this Ramadan a momentum to improve faith and piety.

“Let’s make Ramadan this year a momentum to improve our faith and piety. Let’s worship in the month of Ramadan. May Allah, the Most Glorified, the Most High, always protect the Indonesian people,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (FI/MUR)
