President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (6/2) received members of the Indonesian Sugarcane Farmers Association (APTRI) at the State Palace, Jakarta.

On that occasion, the sugarcane farmers asked the President to raise sugar purchase price from the farmers to Rp10,500 per kilogram from the current price at Rp9,700 per kilogram.

They also conveyed inputs on several programs implemented by the Government, including social assistance in the form of sugarcane supply provided by Ministry of Agriculture and People’s Business Credit (KUR) which replaced the Food and Energy Security Credit (KKPE).

“I would like to discuss the issues first with relevant Ministers, the National Leadership Council of APTRI and other related stakeholders within a week to find best solutions for the farmers,” President Jokowi said, adding that aside from price issue, the Government will also decide on which sugar factories to be revitalized immediately.

“I hope we can find best solutions for the welfare of the sugar farmers across the country,” the President concluded.
