President Jokowi Welcomes US-ASEAN Business Council Delegates

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (08/24) at the State Palace, Jakarta, hosted the US-ASEAN Business Council delegates.

“In general, they expressed appreciation to the President for his leadership in tackling COVID-19 pandemic,” Minister of Investment/Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said in a press statement after the meeting.

According to Bahlil, the delegates also expressed gratitude for the ease of doing business in Indonesia so they can continue to run their business despite global uncertainties due to the pandemic.

“It is evident that our economic growth reaches 5.4 percent with inflation below 5 percent. For the most part, they appreciate his leadership even though we know that the global conditions, the global economy is also not particularly good,” Bahlil said.

During the meeting, the President invited the delegates to invest in energy and green industries which currently are the focuses of the Government and invited them to invest in other sectors such as health and digital sectors.

The Minister added that the meeting also discussed proactive measures taken due to technical problems on the ground.

“The President also stated that we would take comprehensive, measurable steps to accelerate and improve investment conditions,” he said, adding that the President expressed appreciation for the US investment in Indonesia, which is currently number four, only after China.
