President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo welcomed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Thursday (29/10).

Upon arrival at the palace at around 11.00 Western Indonesian Time, the Secretary of State was greeted by Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi. Afterward, he was invited by the President to have a chat on the palace’s veranda before starting a bilateral meeting.

“Your visit in the midst of this pandemic shows the importance of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the United States,” President Jokowi said at the start of the meeting.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the President added, the visits of officials from the two countries remain intensive. “The visits between our officials are quite intensive. I can even say the most intensive ones,” he said.

For the record, prior to the meeting with President Jokowi at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Mike Pompeo had a meeting with Retno LP Marsudi. (FID/UN)
