President Jokowi Welcomes WHO Director General at Merdeka Palace

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (06/21) received an honorary visit from the World Health Organization’s Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

“The Director General really appreciated Indonesia’s leadership in the G20,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi said in a press statement after accompanying the President at the meeting.

The Director General, Retno continued, also expressed appreciation for the country’s achievements in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and noted that Indonesia is one of the countries with the best achievements in vaccination sector compared to other countries around the globe.

In addition, Tedros also noticed that the main health system and mandatory health insurance in Indonesia have been running smoothly and stated that he will continue to monitor the pandemic situation although the COVID-19 cases across the globe have started to stabilize.

“Nevertheless, he stated that the pandemic is not over yet and the WHO is still monitoring the emergence of new variants,” Retno remarked. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/UN) (GWH/MUR)
