President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who is celebrating his 58th birthday today (21/6), received birthday wishes from various layers of society.

Though President Jokowi has said that he does not celebrate birthdays, the Head of State on Friday (21/6) got three birthday surprises. First, during his working visit to inspect airport runway, construction workers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport sang the Indonesian version of “Happy Birthday” in unison. Afterwards, the President thanked the workers and shook their hands.

The second surprise was from local residents when the President about to leave Nurul Barkah Mosque after performing Friday Prayer. The residents also sang for the President which he responded with nods, smiles.

The last surprise was from a journalist working at the Presidential Palace who brought birthday cake for the President. “I have never celebrated a birthday before. So there is no need for you to throw a birthday surprise,” he said while smiling.

On his birthday, President Jokowi expressed his hope for the advancement of Indonesia. In addition, he also confirmed that he will continue evaluating the Government’s achievement over the past five years.

“We must start to reflect on what we must do for this nation in the next five years. We also need to evaluate the Government’s works and improve them,” the President stated. (BPMI/EN)
