President Jokowi, World Bank President Discuss Global Financial System Reforms
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (09/04) hosted President of the World Bank Ajay Banga at the Merdeka Palace’s Jepara room in Jakarta. A number of issues including global financial system reforms were discussed during the meeting.
On that occasion, President Jokowi expressed his hope that the World Bank can realize a fairer global financial system for all countries, especially developing countries including Indonesia.
The President went on to say that current global situation has real impacts on the development in developing countries. To that end, President Jokowi was of the opinion that collaboration between stakeholders is necessary to address the issue.
“I would like to encourage the potential for collaboration between the World Bank, Indonesia, and ASEAN to tackle these challenges,” he added.
President Jokowi also affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to the development of new and renewable energy and encouraged the strengthening of commitment to realizing financing and investment in energy transition and green economy.
“We have made various breakthroughs including the development of new and renewable energy and efforts to implement carbon tax. However, not all countries can meet the needs for green financing,” he remarked. (BPMI SETPRES/UN) (AP/MMB)
