President Lee Jae Myung Affirms New Era of Indonesia-ROK Partnership

During a state luncheon held at the Blue House, South Korea, on Wednesday (04/01), President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung expressed his pleasure for being able to once again meet with President Prabowo Subianto. President Prabowo’s visit was special because it took place in the spring of Korea, just after the Eid al-Fitr celebration that symbolizes a new beginning.
“I am delighted to meet with you. I met President Prabowo last autumn and now in the spring of Korea when the nature comes to life and just after Eid al-Fitr celebration in Indonesia that marks a new beginning. It is such an honor to host President Prabowo as the state guest,” President Lee said at his remarks during a state luncheon with President Prabowo and the delegates, at the Blue House.
President Lee stated that this meeting is a meaningful day in the history of bilateral relations of both countries, marking the elevation of bilateral relations to a special comprehensive strategic partnership. Furthermore, President Lee emphasized that this upgraded partnership will strengthen cooperations across various strategic areas, ranging from defense to economy, innovation, and culture.
On that occasion, President Lee conveyed his deep appreciation to President Prabowo for the affectionate support to the South Korean firms investing in Indonesia. President Lee also highlighted the great potential for cooperation in strategic investment, including through Danantara that has grown into a global-scale sovereign wealth fund.
“I also look forward to robust strategic investment cooperation conducted through Danantara Fund, which has grown to become a global-scale sovereign fund,” he said.
Furthermore, the President mentioned the successful completion of fighter aircraft joint development project, indicating collaboration opportunities in maritime and artificial intelligence sectors. He underscored that both leaders shared similar vision in placing people’s welfare as the first priority and in affirming commitment to further boost inclusive growth.
“President Prabowo and I have much common ground that the happiness and welfare of our people are the priorities in running our government,” he said.
On the event, President Lee also cited an Indonesian proverb referring to a close and inseparable relationship that becomes more meaningful when together. The President was optimistic that the future bilateral relations between the two countries will be more robust and beneficial.
“Rooting on this foundation, I am confident that the friendship, trust, and cooperation between our two countries will yield glorious results.
