President Prabowo Subianto Thursday (08/07) delivered a keynote speech at the Convention of Science, Technology, and Industry (KSTI) Indonesia 2025 held at Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), West Java province.

This strategic forum marked the Government’s strong commitment to creating science and technology as one of the driving forces towards Golden Indonesia 2045.

Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology held this three-day convention in collaboration with ITB, also as a part of the National Technology Awakening Day Commemoration, which falls on August 10.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto reported to the President that the convention was held as a follow-up to a direct initiative from President Prabowo to unite the strengths of researchers, academics, industry players, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

“This convention comes from President’s initiative to bring together researchers and professors, especially in the field of STEM, to work together and share the same vision to contribute to advancing the nation. The convention, which gathers more than two thousand scientists, is a significant milestone held for the first time in this country,” Minister Brian said.

In addition, Minister Brian said that President Prabowo became the second active President who visited ITB, after President Soekarno. Brian further explained that KSTI 2025 was a strategic medium that united the strengths of research and industrial creativity, aligned with the direction of state policy, as a manifestation of shared determination to make science and technology a weapon of the nation’s struggle.

“KSTI becomes a strategic medium to unite the strengths of science, innovation research and industrial creativity, aligned with the firmness of state policy. This is a manifestation of our shared determination to make science and technology one of the weapons of the nation’s struggle,” he said.

Minister Brian further reported that more than 2,200 participants took part in this convention, consisting of 1,066 prominent STEM researchers throughout Indonesia who were selected based on high productivity index (more than 15 points), 401 rectors and deputy rectors of state and private universities across Indonesia and LLDP, 351 STEM lectures in West Java and Jakarta, 26 Indonesia diasporas, 171 doctorate candidates, 150 professors and ITB senate, as well as representatives from 18 ministries/institutions, 15 Danantara State Owned Companies, and 54 industries that have research cooperation with universities.

Considering that it was an exceptional moment where all researchers gathered, the convention also formulated a roadmap for national research and technology innovation, strengthened the connection between science and public policy, and presentation of more than 400 profound research results from various universities, which would be brought together with related industries and ministries.

“While all the researchers are here, we will design a roadmap on research and technology innovation to accelerate economic growth and equality so that we have superior human resource capabilities and mastery of science and technology to manage important resources that control the livelihoods of many people for the greatest prosperity of society,” Minister Brian explained.

Further, he assured the significance of this moment as a collective opportunity to strengthen the determination to build a science-and-innovation-based nation. “This is a great opportunity for all of us to bear the noble tasks to advance our nation, master science and technology for boosting industrial progress and creating outstanding human resources who are ready to carry out various state duties with full honesty and integrity.

Also participating in the event were Nobel Laureate Prof. Konstantin Novoselov, several Ministers and Vice Ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan, and ITB rector Tatacipta Dirgantara as the host of KSTI 2025. (BPMI Setpres) (/MUR)
