President Prabowo Affirms Nahdlatul Ulama’s Strategic Role to Maintain Indonesia’s Stability and Future
President Prabowo Subianto affirms Nahdlatul Ulama’s (NU) role as one of the nation’s key forces that has always played a significant role in Indonesia’s history. He delivered the remarks while opening the 35th NU Congress in Jombang, East Java province, on Thursday (8/27).
“Nahdlatul Ulama has always been present in the major events of this nation. During times of crisis, Nahdlatul Ulama has always been there, determining Indonesia’s stability, security, peace, and future,” he said.
According to the President, the spirit reflects the aspirations of NU’s founders, who envisioned Indonesia rising and standing on an equal footing with other nations. He stressed that a nation’s dignity is inseparable from the realization of justice and prosperity for its people.
“A respected nation is one that is just and prosperous. No nation will be respected if it is not prosperous. And there can be no prosperity without justice,” he said.
President Prabowo also emphasized the importance of close ties between the Government and Islamic mass organizations such as NU and Muhammadiyah. He expressed his commitment to continuously empowering and strengthening NU and Muhammadiyah, including Islamic boarding schools under their auspices.
“I have no hesitation. I am constantly thinking about how to expand, strengthen, and empower Nahdlatul Ulama and Islamic boarding schools under the auspices of NU and Muhammadiyah,” he said.
In the education sector, the Head of State said the Government was committed to ensuring that schools across Indonesia have equal access to digital learning facilities. This also applies to schools managed by NU as part of broader efforts to improve the quality of education across the country.
“Last year, every public school received one [interactive flat] panel for each classroom. This year, all public schools will receive three additional panels, while NU schools will immediately receive four,” the President said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/MMB)
