President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the Government’s commitment to promoting national economic reform and transformation to create a more competitive and responsive investment climate. This was conveyed in his keynote address at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum held at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo on Monday (3/30), as part of a series of the President’s official visit to Japan.
In his remarks, President Prabowo emphasized that in an increasingly connected world, a close and mutually beneficial economic relation is a crucial foundation for stability and peace. He believes that the beneficial outcomes of good economic relations will ultimately benefit all people.
“That’s my belief. If there is a real partnership on the economy and industry between Japan and Indonesia, the two nations will benefit. When the two nations benefit, this will become a pillar of peace and stability,” said the President.
In order to increase economic competitiveness, the President stated that the Government continues to deregulate and simplify procedures, including eliminating regulations deemed irrelevant. As a concrete step, the Government has established a special task force for debottlenecking, tasked with addressing investment barriers quickly and directly.
“This task force has proven effective. We have resolved many problems because it gets to the point,” he said.
“If you have a problem, you can submit complaint to me directly. You can complain directly to me. It can be through your ambassador, through your representative, through MITI or JETRO or whatever, Keidanren, I am willing to receive complaints,” he added.
The President also emphasized his leadership approach which is oriented towards fast and effective results by ensuring that every problem is handled responsively. He said a president in the modern era is the CEO of the country who must identify and resolve problems very quickly.
Furthermore, he also highlighted the importance of speed in decision-making amid constantly changing global dynamics. He said that the key to achieve the best results quickly is good teamwork, like the Indonesia-Japan partnership.
“If there is good teamwork, if the best minds join and work together, we will achieve the best results quickly. So, once the Japan-Indonesia partnership brings the best minds from both sides to work together, we can achieve good things very quickly. I believe that we must work together. We have been working together,” he said.
Therefore, President Prabowo welcomed the enhanced Indonesia-Japan economic partnership as a strategic opportunity to drive shared growth. He believed that this was the right time to deepen cooperation between the two countries to move forward together.
“The enhanced Indonesia-Japan economic partnership agreement will create new opportunities. This is the right time to deepen our cooperation. We are ready and we want to move forward. We are ready to work quickly and we welcome you. If you want to come to Indonesia, we are ready to work with you,” he concluded.
Through accelerated reforms and a strong commitment to strategic partnerships, Indonesia is now emerging as an increasingly competitive economic power, ready to become a new center of stable, open, and globally competitive growth. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/AW)
