President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation for the commencement of construction of the Abadi Masela Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) National Strategic Project (PSN), which was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday (7/16). In his remarks, delivered in a hybrid manner from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, the President regarded the commencement of the project, which had been expected for nearly three decades, an important milestone to strengthen Indonesia’s energy independence.

The President emphasized that energy is one of the primary requirements for the survival of a nation. Indonesia, he said, should be grateful for being blessed with vast energy reserves, including in the Tanimbar Islands region in Maluku province.

“We are aware, the Indonesian people are aware, that we have been blessed with an extraordinary gift by the Almighty. It is proven by seeing our waters in Tanimbar, in Maluku province that we have enormous energy reserves,” said the President.

Therefore, the Head of State expressed his appreciation to all parties who have contributed to the commencement of Masela project’s construction. He commended the synergy of all parties, including investors, in realizing the strategic project which has been initiated since 28 years ago.

“We applaud our friends from Inpex, Japan, who are investing here. We are also grateful for the participation of Petronas from Malaysia. And we are certainly proud of our national company, Pertamina, which is also here. We must all work together to ensure the success of this project, ensure rapid production and rapid results,” he said.

Amid uncertain global dynamics, the President believes that Indonesia has important assets of stability and good cooperative relationships with various countries. This project’s successful execution is proof that hard work, unity, and collaboration can actualize strategic projects that bring benefit to the nation.

“Today, we should be proud of, Alhamdulilah, after decades, this project execution officially starts,” he concluded.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/MMB)
