President Prabowo Subianto, attended the 2025 BRICS Summit held on Sunday (07/06) at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His attendance at the summit, which carried the theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” marked a significant step in addressing global geopolitical and geostrategic challenges.

Upon arrival at the MAM’s VVIP lobby, President Prabowo was welcomed by an honor guard, in line with the official protocol extended to attending heads of state. Earlier, delegation leaders from other participating countries had also arrived and received similar honors, beginning with the Islamic Republic of Iran, followed by India, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UEA), South Africa, the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China, and Ethiopia.

President Prabowo was then escorted to the main venue of the BRICS Summit, where he was warmly welcomed by Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who currently chairs BRICS in 2025. The two leaders shook hands and embraced warmly while engaging in a brief conversation, followed by a photo session. The warm reception from President Lula reflected the high level of enthusiasm and recognition for President Prabowo’s first attendance at the BRICS cooperation forum.

Following the welcome ceremony, President Prabowo joined fellow heads of state in the Leaders’ Lounge—a space designated for leaders to exchange greetings and briefly share views on pressing global challenges and other key issues before proceeding to the summit’s main sessions.

President Prabowo also took part in a group photo session with fellow heads of state and attending delegations. On this occasion, President Prabowo was seen standing between President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

After the photo session, President Prabowo, along with other participating leaders, proceeded to the Plenary Room to attend a closed session focused on “Peace and Security, and Global Governance Reform.” President Prabowo was scheduled to deliver Indonesia’s insights and position on the topic. Over the course of the two-day summit, he is also expected to take part in a series of additional meetings that form part of the broader BRICS Summit agenda. (BPMI SETPRES) (APN/MUR)
