President Prabowo Subianto, Friday (05/08), attended the Retreat Session of the 48th ASEAN Summit held at Shangri-La Mactan, Cebu, the Philippines.

Upon arrival at the venue, President Prabowo was welcomed directly by President of the Philippines Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. as host of the Summit.

Afterward, President Prabowo and other ASEAN leaders gathered at the Platform Ocean Pavilion for a group photo. They stood together to show their solidarity and commitment to regional unity amid changing global dynamics. President Prabowo was positioned between Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia. Following the group photo session, the ASEAN leaders moved to their seats for the retreat session.

In his opening remarks, President Marcos Jr. highlighted that the world is facing a time of uncertainty, with global conflicts and dynamics directly affecting ASEAN countries.

“We gather at a time of uncertainty, a time when events far beyond our region remind us once again of how deeply interconnected we are. Neither distance nor partnerships alone insulate any nation from the ripple effects of conflicts halfway around the world,” he said.

On that occasion, President Marcos Jr. introduced the LEAD, SAIL, and RISE frameworks as ASEAN’s integrated strategy to strengthen the ASEAN community’s three main pillars, with LEAD focused on reinforcing a rules-based and resilient political and security community, SAIL on driving an integrated and innovative economic community, and RISE on promoting a people-centered and inclusive sociocultural community.

“Together, the framework translates ASEAN’s long-term vision into mutually reinforcing actions on peace, prosperity, and people empowerment,” he remarked.

President Prabowo’s presence at the retreat session reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment to continue playing an active role in strengthening ASEAN as the regional anchor of stability, peace, and economic growth amid increasingly complex global challenges. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/AW)
