In the meeting, President Prabowo and the ministers primarily discussed the development of Sekolah Rakyat (community school) program, aimed at ensuring equal access to education across all regions in Indonesia.
Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, who also attended the meeting, highlighted that the Sekolah Rakyat was a direct initiative of President Prabowo. The Central Government will provide full support, including by providing educational staff and coordinating with regional governments.
“The Sekolah Rakyat [program] was initiated by the President. We will provide support in terms of teacher provision, teacher recruitment, then we will also communicate with the regional governments, 53 of which have already prepared [for the program implementation] and the other 184 have submitted proposals” said Tito Karnavian in his statement to the press after the meeting.
Furthermore, Tito also explained that the regional governments have shown strong enthusiasm about this program. Currently, 184 regional governments have submitted proposals for establishing Sekolah Rakyat, with the sites for the schools already prepared.
“The 184 regional governments have already prepared the sites for the schools as the follow-ups of their proposals,” said Tito.
This meeting underscored the Government’s commitment to providing quality education to people living in remote areas and ensuring that every child has equal opportunities to learn. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of the Presidential Secretariat) (TCUD/RAS/TM)
