President Prabowo Subianto Friday (03/13) pointed out that although Indonesia remains secure amid ongoing global turmoil, the Government must prepare for various scenarios, including worst-case possibilities that could affect national energy and economic stability.

“We are facing global developments in regions such as Europe and the Middle East, and this will certainly have an impact on us as it will affect fuel prices, which in turn could influence food prices. Nevertheless, thank God, we have secured our essential needs: food supply,” President Prabowo said during a plenary cabinet meeting held at the State Palace in Central Jakarta.

The Head of State further said that some countries have taken measures in response to the current global situation.

“For them, it is as if the world is returning to the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are implementing work-from-home arrangements across both government and private offices, with 50 percent of employees working remotely,” he added, noting that further assessment of such efficiency measures should also be undertaken by the Government.

In addition, President Prabowo expressed hope that the Government would maintain fiscal discipline and prevent the budget deficit from widening amid the current situation.

“Our aspiration is, if possible, to have no deficit at all. Our target is for the state budget to be balanced. That is the ideal, and I believe we can achieve it,” the President said.

Regarding fuel reserves, the Head of State said the Government has formulated several plans to accelerate fuel availability and reminded his cabinet members to take proactive measures in anticipating current conditions, including reducing fuel consumption.

“We cannot assume that whatever happens, we will remain safe,” President Prabowo said.

Concluding his remarks at the plenary cabinet meeting ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, President Prabowo called on all cabinet members to continue working in the interest of the people while prioritizing unity above group or factional interests. The Head of State emphasized that loyalty to the nation must remain the foremost priority in every government action. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (GWH/AW)
