President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday (10/11). In his opening remarks, President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening and expanding bilateral relations with Egypt.
“Indonesia and Egypt have a long-standing relationship and we are determined to continue expanding and enhancing these ties. We have not forgotten Egypt’s support when Indonesia was fighting for its independence against colonial rule during our war of independence from 1945 to 1949,” President Prabowo said during the bilateral meeting.
Furthermore, President Prabowo called for tangible cooperation that would benefit both countries. Several strategic areas were highlighted, ranging from the economy, trade, investment, education, science and technology to maritime affairs, fisheries, and defense.
“Today’s meeting will further deepen cooperation between our two countries while also contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,” he added.
On the occasion, President Prabowo also underscored Egypt’s important role in the Muslim world and the Middle East, adding that the two countries’ shared historical ties and close people-to-people relations serve as an important foundation for strengthening the friendship between Indonesia and Egypt.
“Historically, we have great regard for Egypt’s role in the Muslim and the Arab world. Therefore, rest assured, Your Excellency, that whenever you come to Indonesia, Your Excellency are among your own family,” he said.
President Prabowo also expressed appreciation for the visit, while recalling the warm welcome he had received during his visits to Egypt in 2024 and 2025.
“I would like to welcome my brother, President El-Sisi, and the entire Egyptian delegation to Jakarta, Indonesia. Thank you for the honor extended to me and my delegation during my visits to Egypt in 2024 and 2025,” President Prabowo remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (GWH/TM)
