President Prabowo Closes 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress

President Prabowo Subianto on Monday (08/31) officially closed the 35th Congress of Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) held at Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School, Jombang regency, East Java province.

The closing ceremony of this five-day congress commenced with the singing of the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya”, followed by the patriotic march, “Syubbanul Wathon”. The ceremony then proceeded with a collective prayer led by the Chair of the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Foundation Abdurrozaq Sholeh.

Afterward, the Congress Chair Saifullah Yusuf presented a report on the results of the congress. The Congress decided that Miftachul Akhyar will be the next Rais Aam (supreme leader) and Abdul Hakim Mahfudz will serve as Chair of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) for the 2026–2031 term.

“We would like to congratulate His Eminence Kiai Miftachul Akhyar for once again being entrusted with the mandate as the Rais Aam of PBNU. We would also like to congratulate KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz who has been entrusted as the Chair of PBNU,” he said.

In his remarks, President Prabowo also congratulated both figures and expressed his appreciation for the successful implementation of the Congress.

“I would like to congratulate the newly selected NU leadership. I would also like to appreciate the implementation of the Congress, which took place successfully, harmoniously, and peacefully,” the President said.

During the closing ceremony, the President received an NU membership card, Kartanu, which was directly presented by Rais Aam Miftachul Akhyar.

The closing ceremony ended with the drumbeat of the bedug (a traditional drum usually used for a call to prayer). “Congratulations on the successful execution of the 35th Congress, the nation, state, and ummah are waiting for Nahdlatul Ulama’s service and dedication in the coming days, months, and years,” he concluded.
