President Prabowo Subianto (08/24) monitored forest and land fires management efforts in Jambi and Lampung provinces through video conference from the South Sumatra Forest and Land Fires Task Force Headquarters in Palembang city.

On that occasion, the President was updated with the latest report that the fires in the area are starting to be brought under control.

“Thank God, Alhamdulillah, fires in Jambi have been extinguished. The remaining task is mopping up the burned land in that area. If smoke begins to spread across a wide area, we initiate cooling operations. However, there are no active flames, Sir,” Governor of Jambi province Al Haris said in his report.

The Head of State also confirmed that the Government will deploy vehicles to speed up mobilization of wildlife firefighters in Jambi province.

“There are 81 posts, so we will immediately send motorcycles to Jambi province. I thank the Jambi Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) [for their efforts]. Keep up the good work and educate the public, prevent the fires, and monitor the fires management progress,” he said.

Regarding the situation in Lampung, President Prabowo called on all related parties to make a swift action to extinguish forest and land fires in Way Kambas National Park.

“I order you to extinguish fires in 100 hectares plots of land immediately, if possible,” he added.

During the video conference, President Prabowo also extended his appreciation to all sides who have been working hard to handle the forest and land fires, including the Forkopimda and on-site officers deployed in the most frontier posts. He added that the Government will continue to support their hard work.

“Protect your territory, protect your hometown. We will overcome this; the weather is temporarily unfavorable, but we can overcome it,” he concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/AW)
