President Prabowo Subianto, Friday (06/20), highlighted Indonesia’s accomplishments in the food sector since the onset of his administration and reaffirmed the country’s dedication to global cooperation at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025.

Addressing global leaders, economic experts, and international business representatives, the President shared his satisfaction with the significant increase in national food production, achieved just seven months into his administration.

“I am proud to stand here today before you. Just seven months into my administration, we have successfully increased rice and corn productions by around 50 percent. And this is the largest aggregate production growth in the history of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.

The President further stated that the national rice reserves reached an all-time high of 4.4 million tons, thanks to efficiency measures, corruption eradication, and deregulation enforced since the beginning of his administration.

“Within just a few months, we enhanced efficiency, fought corruption fiercely, streamlined all regulations that caused inefficiency, and immediately saw the results,” he said.

On that occasion, the President expressed appreciation for the support of partner countries in Indonesia’s membership in BRICS and the New Development Bank (NDB).

“We believe that Indonesia can play a positive role in international relations. For example, our participation in BRICS. We thank the Government of Russia for supporting us as a member of BRICS, which proceeded swiftly. I suppose we are one of the members that was accepted the fastest,” he said.

“We were also quickly accepted as a member of the New Development Bank. We thank the Governments of China and South Africa for their support,” he added.

The President also underscored the importance of international cooperation through fora such as BRICS for global stability and prosperity.

“We believe that, together, BRICS can significantly contribute to global stability and prosperity,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/MMB)
