President Prabowo Subianto emphasized good governance and strong state institutions as pillars of national resilience and Islamic world solidarity,
He made the statement at the Opening the 19th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) and related meetings, held at the Nusantara Building of the House of Representatives’ Building (MPR/DPR/DPD) in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
The President stated that the challenges faced by the Muslim community today are not limited to the issue of Palestine. These challenges also include structural problems such as poverty, hunger, corruption, educational inequality, and poor management of resources.
“Without good governance, without strong institutions, without honest leaders and officials who serve the people, a country will never have resilience, let alone competitiveness,” he said.
Furthermore, President Prabowo emphasized that the Indonesian Government is currently implementing a national strategic agenda that includes political and bureaucratic reforms, human resource development, and achieving self-sufficiency in food and energy. These steps are believed to be key to solving internal problems, which are required for Indonesia’s contribution on the global stage.
“If we cannot manage our own nation, how can we help those in need? If we are weak, we cannot assist Palestine, and even our voice will not be heard. Our voice is heard when we are united and strong,” he stressed.
President Prabowo also revealed that in his meeting with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah in Brunei Darussalam, they agreed that the Islamic world has the potential to be a solution for global peace. This aligns with Islamic teachings, which promote world peace.
“The essence of Islamic teachings is love and compassion. This is the essence of our religion and the heritage we must revive in a world that is losing its way,” he added.
However, the President also reminded that without collective strength, the intention to bring peace may be seen as weak by others. For that matter, he called on all PUIC member countries to revive the spirit of Islamic leaders and unite for a more just and prosperous future.
“Let us unite. Let us revive the spirit of our great leaders. Let us prove that Islam is a mercy to all creation. Let us come together, overcome our differences, and move forward in unity,” he concluded. (BPMI) (EST/LW)
