President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday (10/23) hosted a working lunch attended by President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, First Lady Janja Lula da Silva, and their delegation at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
The meeting not only brought together two heads of state but also united two cultures of the nations.
The lunch began with a Javanese appetizer, Pecel Kembang, a mix of fresh boiled vegetables served with aromatic peanut sauce, crispy peyek (savory crackers), and edible flowers. The next course was Pindang Serani, a clear fish soup from the northern coast of Java, featuring a refreshing sourness from green tomatoes, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves.
The main course was Iga Bakar Kluwek, grilled beef ribs cooked with kluwek, a distinctive black nut from the Indonesian archipelago, accompanied by citrus leaf rice, tomato pickles, and baby carrots. The blend of savory, sweet, and slightly bitter flavors from the kluwek created a deep and memorable taste, reflecting the richness and character of Indonesian cuisine.
The special dessert for the lunch was Chocolate Cake with Mango Mousse, harmoniously combining the smoothness of chocolate with the freshness of tropical mango. The dessert was served with fresh guava juice, as well as selections of Indonesian coffee and tea, whose aromas accompanied the warm conversations among the leaders and delegates.
During the lunch, the atmosphere at the Merdeka Palace was enlivened by soft yet captivating musical performances, featuring both Indonesian and Brazilian songs that added to the warmth of the occasion.
The working lunch was more than just a diplomatic meeting, it was a celebration of friendship between two nations that share a love for diversity. Through the harmony of cuisine and music, Indonesia and Brazil demonstrated that diplomacy is not only exercised in negotiation rooms, but also at the dining table and on the stage of art.
