In a bid to accelerate national economic transformation based on downstreaming and industrialization, President Prabowo Subianto Thursday (03/20) inaugurated the Batang Industropolis Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Batang regency, Central Java province.
“Today, we have an area that can become the Shenzhen of Indonesia, inshallah,” President Prabowo said in his remarks.
According to the President, the development of Industropolis aligns with Indonesia’s vision to catch up with neighboring countries to build prosperity for all people. President Prabowo also underscored the significance of collaboration between the Government, private sector, and international partners to support the region’s growth, adding that the Government is open to investment and mutually beneficial cooperation.
“Indonesia needs participation, investment, and mutually beneficial cooperation,” he said.
In the meantime, Head of the SEZ Development and Management Agency Ngurah Wirawan said that the SEZ status provides the area a stronger attraction for investors since the area can gain various fiscal incentives and investment facilities, such as tax breaks and monetary facilities.
“We hope the status can increase the number of factories and economic activities here, as well as creating jobs and economic growth as expected by the Government,” Ngurah said, adding that Industropolis is expected to attract new investment commitments of up to Rp75 trillion in the next five years and create around 50,000 employments.
Ngurah also added that Industropolis includes three main clusters, namely industrial and processing, logistics and transportation, as well as tourism and property, and is supported by strategic infrastructure such as toll road, a super dry port railway line capable of transporting thirty container trains, and newly-constructed port to facilitate the flow of goods and logistics, making Batang one of the most complete SEZ in the country.
“With the inauguration of the SEZ by Mr. President today, we hope we can help accelerate investment in Indonesia,” Ngurah said. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat) (GWH/MUR)
