President Prabowo: Indonesia, Thailand Partnership Must Deliver Tangible Benefits to the People

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Thailand must continue to focus on concrete cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for the people of the two countries. This statement was conveyed by the President during his opening remarks at a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Monday (08/03).

“Mr. Prime Minister, I think this partnership must look to the future and seek a path forward that focuses on delivering tangible benefits to our people,” said President Prabowo.

The President said Prime Minister Anutin’s visit as a historic and significant moment. It marks the first official visit by a Thai Prime Minister to Indonesia within the last 15 years.

“Mr. Prime Minister, your visit today is both historic and significant. This is the first official visit by a Prime Minister of Thailand to Indonesia within the last 15 years,” the President stated.

The Head of State viewed that the close relations between the two countries need to be continually reinforced through more intensive meetings and coordination. He said various meetings within the ASEAN framework have helped Indonesia and Thailand find common ground on a number of foreign policy and international relations issues.

“We need to meet and coordinate more frequently,” the President said.

The meeting also served as the second Indonesia–Thailand Leaders’ Consultation. The President expressed confidence that the meeting would provide a clearer direction for the next phase of the partnership between the two nations, following the elevation of Indonesia–Thailand relations to a strategic partnership during the President’s visit to Bangkok the previous year.

“I am confident that today’s meeting will make things clearly toward the next phase of our partnership,” the President stated.

He affirmed that close cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand could also contribute to strengthening stability within ASEAN. In defense and security sectors, both countries need to increase the frequency and scope of joint exercises, personnel exchanges, and educational cooperation among their armed forces.

He further promoted the expansion of economic opportunities through increased trade and investment, as well as strengthened cooperation in food and energy security. Collaboration in digital technology is also considered vital, given that this sector will help shape the future of the world.

“We must also foster connectivity and people-to-people ties. By deepening cooperation in these areas, we can further strengthen our bilateral relations while contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in our region,” the President stated. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/MMB)
